wow! Photoshop starts locking up when I have more than about 30, and that's with 1gb of ram

Are you using a lasso with the feather setting to cut out the pictures?

yeah, freehand lasso with 2px feather

i think because each layyer in itself was so tiny it just about managed to keep going...
